A massive explosion and ensuing 3 alarm fire leveled two apartment buildings containing 28 units in the Flower Branch Apartment complex on Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, Maryland just before midnight August 10, 2016.  There were 30 people taken to area hospitals and 5-7 people living in the apartments are not accounted for.  Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein said, “People were dropping children and jumping out of other windows.” More than 160 fire and rescue workers were called to the scene to help battle the blaze.  The force of the explosion blew debris more than 300 feet from the buildings.
