Ongoing Investigation in Route 50 Plane Crash

Maryland State Police said troopers were called around 11:20 AM today to Route 50 at Church Road for a plane crash.  Police stated that a small plane went down near Freeway Airport in Bowie, hitting a vehicle and injuring four people.  The plane struck at least one vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 as it crashed. Two people in the plane and two people in the car suffered injuries.

The Maryland State Highway Administration said two left lanes on eastbound Route 50 were closed and one lane on westbound Route 50 was closed.  Traffic is passing in the right lanes, but there’s a slowdown with the police response and as motorists look on. Expect traffic delays on both sides of Route 50 as there are partial lane closures in both directions at the scene of the crash.
